Mitsui & Co Realty Management, Ltd.(“MBRM”) manages cutting edge Hyperscale Datacenter development projects in Japan by utilizing its exceptional industrial real estate fund management experience and financing capabilities.
Mitsui & Co, Ltd. and Mitsui Asset Management Holdings, Ltd. launched a joint venture (“JV”) with Fidelity Investments and Colt Data Centre Services (“Colt DCS”) in 2021 in the hyperscale datacenter business domain.
In Chiba and Saitama, and in the Keihanna area in Kyoto, the JV plans to develop datacenters with a total capacity of more than 90 MW. In addition, the JV will pursue other new projects.
MBRM has been entrusted, as an asset manager of the JV, with the fund operation, procurement of funds from financial institutions and others, and work related to asset management and operation, including sourcing of candidate development sites for future projects. The datacenter fund management business is a new strategic focus of MBRM and it commits to expand its business by mutual collaborations with Colt DCS, which has a strong track record in datacenter development and operation.
MBRM has been engaging in asset management for the development of a new datacenter in the Keihanna Science City (Kansai Science City). This 42,000 m2, 45 MW facility will start providing its services in early 2023.
After the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011, many companies recognized the importance of decentralizing datacenter facilities in various regions, which has led to growing demand for datacenters located in the Osaka area as part of companies’ disaster recovery plans.
